Validating the Arabic Scale of Happiness among College Students

Background: Happiness is well known to have positive consequences not only on one person but also society as a whole. For this reason, psychologists become increasingly interested in psychology general and happiness particular. This interest has been reflected studying measuring it. Thus, questions raised lately about the best methods or producers tools accurately measure And, because culturally influenced construct, applicability of such needs be verified across cultures. Objectives: The study aimed at assessing reliability validity Arab Scale (ASH). was conducted college students, analysis included testing several statistical analyses correlations between two for happiness, namely, Oxford Questionnaire (OHQ) Satisfaction With Life (SWKS), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II). Methods: A total 731 students from public university UAE were recruited tests used study. validation process ASH its factor structure using both exploratory confirmatory analysis. Convergent validity, discriminant internal scale assessed reported addition evaluating gender differences. Results: Results indicated that unidimensional, with dominant explained more than 50% variance. high (α= .93), all items performed properly happiness. good convergent it highly positively correlated OHQ SWLS, discriminate negatively BDI-II. Conclusion: reliable valid among youth students. It necessary establish appropriateness use populations countries future studies. Furthermore, can cross-cultural applications assess different groups individuals.
